The .380 ACP (Automatic Colt Pistol) is a compact handgun cartridge designed by John Browning and introduced in 1908. It shares the same .355-inch bullet diameter as the 9mm Luger but uses a shorter case, which is why it also goes by 9mm Kurz and 9mm Short. That shorter case and lighter charge give the round its signature manageable recoil.
