Our Bullet-Making Process

Every Berry’s bullet starts as a pure lead core, swaged under high pressure so each core carries the same weight and density.

That core is then electroplated with copper. The plating bonds to the lead and fully encases it, which leaves no exposed lead at the range and far less fouling than a hard cast bullet leaves behind.

After plating, each bullet is re-struck in a die to bring it to a true .401 bullet diameter and exact overall length. Every bullet is then inspected for size, weight, and plating before it ships.

Because our plated bullets follow a pressure curve close to hard cast, use published load data for cast or a jacketed bullet at the same grain weight and profile. Start low and work up.

  • Standard plated bullets carry a max velocity of 1,250 fps. Do not exceed it, since higher velocity past that point causes core separation and accuracy issues.
  • Thick plate bullets are rated to 1,500 fps for full-power 10mm loads.
  • Crimp lightly. Use a taper or a roll crimp. Over crimping cuts the plating and leads to core separation.

 

Check your reloading manual and confirm your load against the recommended maximum before loading at higher pressure.
