Berry's Hybrid Hollow Points are the result of two merged developmental ideas. Following the same process as our Superior Plated Bullets®, they start with a swaged lead core that is then electroplated with copper to final weight. Lastly, they are re-struck to ensure precise specifications and create the Hybrid Hollow Point nose design. This design allows for maximum expansion and weight retention, becoming one of the most reliable self-defense bullets available today. The .45's penetration is 11"-13".

45 ACP Hollow Point Bullets
The .45 ACP (Automatic Colt Pistol) cartridge has been a staple in self-defense and law enforcement for over a century. Originally designed in 1904, the .45 ACP's stopping power and reliability quickly made it a popular choice for military, law enforcement, and civilian self-defense. The hollow point version of this cartridge, particularly in the 185 grain (gr) category, adds a layer of precision to its renowned effectiveness. Hollow point bullets, like Berry's Hybrid Hollow Points, are designed to expand upon impact. This expansion creates a larger wound channel while avoiding over-penetration, a crucial factor in self-defense scenarios. The 185 gr hollow point variant combines traditional stopping power with improved accuracy and reduced recoil. This combined with the fact that it fits popular handgun models, such as S&W and Sig Sauer, makes it a top choice for both personal defense and law enforcement applications.
Benefits of a Lighter Grain 45 ACP
Choosing a lighter grain bullet, such as the 185 gr ACP, offers several benefits over different 45 ACP bullet options like the traditional 200 gr Target Hollow Point or 185 gr LSWC.
Increased Velocity & Expansion
Firstly, the lighter 185 gr bullet can achieve a higher velocity, enhancing the bullet's performance in terms of both muzzle velocity and muzzle energy. This increase in velocity aids in expansion and energy transfer upon impact, crucial for self-defense situations.
Secondly, the lighter grain results in a reduced recoil, which is beneficial for rapid follow-up shots, a significant factor in defensive shooting scenarios. The reduced recoil also makes these rounds more manageable for a wider range of shooters, contributing to better overall accuracy.
Additionally, when used in semi-automatic pistols or submachine guns, the lighter recoil aids in smoother cycling of ammunition, reducing the strain on recoil springs. For those involved in target practice or bulk ammo purchases, these lighter grain bullets can provide a more comfortable and accurate shooting experience. Lastly, lighter grain bullets like the 185 gr ACP are versatile, and suitable for a range of applications from target shooting to self-defense, making them an excellent choice for those seeking a balance between power and manageability.

- Load data for our Superior Plated Bullets® can be found in any manual or on any powder manufacturer’s website.
- Cast or jacketed data with the same grain weight and profile will work with our bullets.
- You can use a taper or a roll crimp.
- Don’t over crimp the brass after seating. This causes bullet core separation, leading to increased copper fouling and accuracy issues.
- Don’t exceed the recommended maximum velocities listed. This creates bullet core separation and accuracy issues.
- Use a round nose seating stem. A flat point seating stem will alter the performance of the Hybrid Hollow Point.
