Berry’s Brass Cleaning Media

Corn Cob Media

Corn cob media delivers a brilliant, mirror-like finish. This lightweight corncob media works perfectly in any vibratory tumbler, producing minimal dust while polishing brass to look like new brass. Add a media additive or polishing compound for even better results.

Walnut Shell Media

For heavily soiled brass, walnut media is your starting point. Crushed walnut and ground walnut shells are more abrasive, making walnut shell media ideal for stripping carbon and cleaning the primer pocket. Many reloaders use a two-stage process: walnut first for deep cleaning, then cob media for polish. Walnut produces a clean matte finish if you prefer that look.

Berry’s Media Additives & Polish

Berry’s polish transforms good results into great ones. These products lubricate the cleaning process, reduce dust, and help your tumbler media last longer. Just a small amount mixed into your corn cob or walnut media makes a noticeable difference in shine.

For wet tumbling, specialized solutions break down carbon and residue more effectively than water alone. Always follow manufacturer recommendations for the right ratio in your wet tumbler.

Dry Media vs. Wet Tumbling

Dry Media

Traditional dry media tumbling in a vibratory tumbler or vibratory cleaner remains the most popular cleaning process. Load your brass case collection with your chosen tumbler media, and the machine does the work. Clean media can be reused multiple times before replacement.

Wet Tumbling

Wet tumbling using a rotary tumbler or wet tumbler cleans inside the brass case and primer pocket more thoroughly than dry methods. The wet tumble process removes carbon from areas cleaning media can’t reach. Brass requires drying afterward, but many shooters find the results worth the extra step.

Choosing the Right Tumbler

Vibratory Tumblers

A vibratory tumbler is the workhorse of most reloading benches. These units use rapid vibration to agitate media against brass, scrubbing away fouling efficiently. They’re affordable, easy to use, and work great with both corn cob and walnut shell media.

Rotary Tumblers

A rotary tumbler spins the drum rather than vibrating, making it the preferred choice for wet tumbling. These units run quieter than vibratory cleaners and excel at deep cleaning when used with stainless steel pins and liquid solutions.

Preparing Brass for Reloading

After tumbling, inspect each brass case for cracks, splits, or damage. Verify primer pockets are clear of media. To do this, a quick pass with a primer pocket tool will ensure reliable primer seating. Once your clean brass passes inspection, it’s ready for sizing, priming, and loading with Berry’s superior plated bullets.
