Model 400 Brass Tumbler

Choose the QD-500 if you clean brass in volume. Its patented quick-detach bowl pops off for fast, spill-free media separator work, and the larger, thicker bowl takes on bigger loads at once. How to Use Berry’s Vibratory Tumblers

Cleaning brass in a Berry’s tumbler is simple.

  1. Choose your media. Use corn cob media for polishing, walnut shells for cutting heavier grime, or stainless steel pins for a deep wet clean. Both corn cob and walnut work in either model.
  2. Load your brass. Add your cases, but do not overfill. An overloaded bowl tumbles poorly and can leave you with a split case.
  3. Add polish. For extra shine, squeeze in some Berry’s Brass Bright Polish to lift residue out of the primer pocket and brighten the finish. A touch of wax-based polish helps cases resist tarnish between loadings.
  4. Run it. Secure the lid and switch on the machine. Most batches finish in 2 to 3 hours depending on media and load size.
  5. Separate. Pull the clean brass from the media with a separator like Berry’s Pro Rotary Brass Sorter. If you wet tumbled, dry the cases fully before loading.

Dry Tumbling vs Wet Tumbling

Berry’s vibratory tumblers handle both dry and wet tumbling, so you can match the method to the job.

Dry tumbling uses dry media like corn cob or walnut for surface cleaning and polish. It is quick, low-mess, and good for regular maintenance.

Wet tumbling adds hot water and a cleaning agent for a deeper clean. A little dish detergent or a pinch of citric acid cuts stubborn residue inside the primer pocket and flash holes, and stainless pins reach where dry media cannot. This is the method for heavily soiled brass. A wet tumbler setup takes longer to dry but leaves the cleanest result. Either way beats hand washing or an ultrasonic cleaner for both speed and volume.
