Loading Your 30-30 Bullets

Load data for our Superior Plated Bullets can be found in any manual or on any powder manufacturer’s website. Cast or jacketed data with the same grain weight and profile will work with these bullets. Start low and work up from there.

Key specs and notes for the 30-30 cartridge:

• Max velocity is 2,000 fps. Do not exceed the recommended maximum velocity. Pushing past it causes bullet core separation and accuracy issues.
• Bullet O.A.L. is .834,” and cartridge O.A.L. is 2.550″. Confirm your cartridge length against your load data, since seating depth affects both feeding and pressure.
• Crimp lightly. Use a taper or a roll crimp. Do not overcrimp after seating, since that separates the core from the plating and leads to copper fouling and accuracy issues.
• Micro-groove barrels: Many older Marlin rifles use micro-groove barrels that can be picky with a cast bullet. A plated 150-grain flat shoulder bullet often feeds and shoots well in them.
• Bullet weight: This 150-grain bullet sits between a lighter bullet for flatter close-range work and the heavier bullets some shooters run for deep penetration.
